My weight loss journey

I have been on the weight loss journey (on and off) for about 5 years and have struggled with my weight for the greater part of my adult life. I have been on many different weight loss plans, but somehow have always managed to gain the weight right back leaving me feeling discouraged and frustrated.
This book has helped me develop a longer term approach to weight loss by showing me how to break down my ultimate goal into smaller doable goals in a pace that’s right for me. Before, I was pressuring myself to lose all the weight as fast as possible which added to the stress and, at times, lead me to sabotage myself and my efforts – I was trying to make too big a change that was just too difficult to keep up.
Losing the weight gradually and at my own pace has really benefited me mentally and emotionally and has really improved my overall confidence. More importantly, I now have a better understanding of what I was doing wrong in my prior efforts and have developed some new habits to lose weight in a healthier way. Additionally, this book has provided me with effective tools to deal with the stress that comes from the changes involved when starting a weight loss regimen. The main focus of this book is to help us feel better about the new habits we’re developing in order to lose weight. I recommend this book to all who are looking for a positive experience as they embark in their personal journey of weight loss.

My struggle with weight loss and the help I got from this book!

The book does a good job of tying the four key areas of weight loss: the emotional, mental, exercise, and nutrition together to develop a more balanced weight loss plan. I especially got inspired by the part of the book that helped me take a step back and look at myself more objectively. I was surprised to see so many mental distractions pulling on me and making it hard for me to focus. By pulling back, I’ve been able to see things more clearly and better focus on the task at hand. Some of the tools, such as “mindfulness” meditation, breathing exercises, visualization and identifying your strengths, really set this book apart from the other fitness books I’ve read. These tools have helped me better embrace the new habits of exercising and eating the right foods to gradually lose the weight. They have also helped me stay true to what is important to me, which is to be able to stick with the plan and not give up on what ultimately makes me happy.

I’m now entering my 4th decade of life and was looking for a well written book to keep me on track with weight management as well as lose some pounds I tacked on recently. I was quite surprised by the level of rigor and detail the author inserted into this great book. Even the illustrations were top notch! When someone pours, knowledge, dedication, and passion into anything, the outcome is always worth reviewing. This second edition by Bez Moghadam is no exception and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for either a great reference on weight loss or for anyone who is in need of these excellent approaches.
