About the Author
Juniper Bowers is a certified yoga instructor and a licensed secondary educator who has been teaching for over 20 years. She began her career in education as a high school Spanish teacher. When Juniper received her Yoga training at Inner Gate Yoga, she was drawn immediately to teaching yoga to children. Her first yoga curriculum for kids, InterActive Anatomy, combines the study of anatomy through movement. Juniper began teaching InterActive Anatomy as a summer program class and eventually began teaching the class at Aldo Leopold Charter High School in Silver City, NM as an elective. The class evolved to become Mandala Yoga, which includes group yoga and team building exercises, along with the study of mandalas, art, sacred geometry, and even rhythmic clapping games and “brain gym.” This book is a compilation of the poses created by the class. Juniper lives in Mimbres, New Mexico, with her husband Daniel and her two kids, Escher and Semilla. She loves to practice Yoga and Thai massage/Rossiter and has written three yoga curriculums for children: InterActive Anatomy, Mandala Yoga, and Alphabet in Action.

I worked with Juniper Bowers as she was creating her Mandala Yoga course here at Aldo Leopold Charter School, and this book is a compilation of this amazing class. The class was extremely popular with our students for a number of semesters, creating the perfect blend of physical activity, teamwork, and aesthetics. Physically, the activities build strength, flexibility, and body awareness. Students work together to create unified poses and transitions within the framework of the Mandela design. The team dynamic is cooperative and positive, and encourages the celebration of both the individual and the group. From an educator’s perspective, this course material is well-designed to facilitate differentiated instruction easily, with the grouping of similar physical abilities and skill levels. Either as a stand- alone course or as a unit in an existing PE course, Mandala Yoga is a fresh idea that is engaging and fun for students while also providing ample opportunity for physical challenge and growth. I highly recommend the Mandala Yoga book for anyone looking to implement this type of cooperative physical activity. The book is well written and replete with clear instructions and beautiful, colorful photographs of each pose.

This for me is the ideal way to do group yoga. This book is very informative, gives easy to understand directions while also showing pictures for further clarity. The author Juniper Bowers also puts in an index of different common positions and their names so that as a group you can work more fluidly. I'd say this book is excellent for a small group of friends and for larger groups too. I can't wait to learn and do more of the mandala forms. I love how much laughter and flexibility is gained by working these yoga forms with friends!

so fun and creative!

Mandala Yoga is a really great program for teens, young adults, and yogis. The shapes created are all very fun, create connectedness, and strength. Understanding of the breath, positive body image and compassion, along with community, all can be created using these fun group yoga poses! I plan on sharing this program at summer camp next year. Everyone is gonna love it!
