Must have book for all Professionals.

A much awaited book on an imporyant topic. The authors have done a wonderful job in writing this book. The presentation of the book is seamless with one chapter leading on to the next. The examples kept me interested throughout the book. Although both the authors are neurosurgeons they don't bore is with medical jargon but have kept the language simple and easy to understand. A must have book all professionals.The world is divided into two kinds of people , the one who already had burnout and the other who are going to.

Pertinent and excellent book

It is a very well thought out and intelligent explanation of burnout, and how to deal with. It is such a relevant topic, however people choose to ignore it, and pretend it doesn't exist. In fact, people facing burnout are often misunderstood and labelled as ineffective at work, unmotivated, and are criticized for it. I thoroughly enjoyed the detailed study of the components of burnout and how to deal with each of them. I especially enjoyed the exercises at the end of each chapter which really added value to the book.

Read it to believe in the power of healing

I chose plan B in my career when I experienced burn out at its best. Now, my transition from medical professional to Social work as a therapist has taught me new dimensions about life; dimensions I never knew existed. This book helped me achieve just that. I could relate to the science behind the burn out. Unless we truly understand the "roots" or the scientific explanations behind what causes burn out, we will be stuck where we are. And we will keep repeating the pattern. Be it the science behind mindfulness, or OCD or addiction or stress and anxiety, we truly heal when we are not afraid to explore the science behind it and responsible for it. The book describes the scientific reasons and explains them in a delightful manner. It does not feel like reading a book packed with advise or words that we could not relate it; instead it is a book that speaks to each and every one of us who has gone through the phase and has felt the darkness in its entire glory. It is not a pleasant place to be yet there is hope and there is healing. The exercises in the book are very encouraging and not overwhelming like some of the other self-help books explain. The authors encourage to dig deep and find our own answers; answers that speak to us and not based on an universal antidote.
I am going to use this book for my group sessions with teenagers suffering from Eating Disorders. This group consists of a group of insightful people who are trying to decipher what exactly is causing them distress and for the same reason they are looking for answers elsewhere. I will also use this for OCD and addiction.
The definitions and explanations made me feel confident that everybody experiences burn out but we can decide what we do with it if we are aware of its existence.
